“Antitrust” is a 2001 thriller film that deals with the theme of technology, corporate greed, and the importance of ethical business practices. Despite the film’s central message of open source projects and the dangers of monopolies, the irony lies in MGM’s marketing strategy for the film. The official website for “Antitrust” featured video interviews, but they were only available in Apple’s proprietary QuickTime format, which goes against the principles of open source
I remember that when I saw this movie I was captivated by the music and by the technology that proposed video and audio compression so that we could communicate without lag through our devices, more specifically it seemed like a great idea to use with devices like Palms (The smartphones of that time but that only accessed the internet through Wi-Fi). And then came the iPhone, the 3g and 4g networks and everything else is history.
On the other hand, Gary Winston was a synonymous of Bill Gates in those days and today I think Sundar Pichai would be Gary hahah.
However, what is interesting is that it is a story that is repeated over and over again, very large companies that lose innovation power against small “Davids” that with much fewer resources take us to the future. Perhaps one of the most recent examples, is that of OpenAi and Google, although OpenAi is far from “boys in a garage”
By the way, in my opinion this intro is inside one of the best film openings!
