Custom PHP Script in Action Steps

Hey Team,
It would be nice to add a custom script and add it as a line item in the steps and maybe reference variables within the script as shortcodes. As of right now I have to add the lines of code manually into the server connect files and keep a copy of it somewhere cause as soon as I update the code it is overwritten. Any thoughts on this or maybe there is already a way to do it?
