Global mail setup cannot use dynamic data (especially from a previous step)

Expected behavior

Before having the globals panel, mail set-up actions could access dynamic data from previous steps, which was very useful to populate mail set-up host and other variables from a datasource.

Actual behavior

The global mail set-up does not have access to dynamic data, especially from previous steps. A full use case scenario and suggested workarounds can be found here.

How to reproduce

1. Create a server action
2. Create a query to retrieve host, port, username and password from a data source.
3. Add a small set-up step: it only shows a dropdown selector.
4. Retrieve your mail set-up step under Globals, and try to assign dynamic data to any of the fields: nothing can be retrieved directly. The workarounds require ‘placeholders’ to be set-up, and that need to be input in code view as the visual interface doesn’t display any options.
