PHP Snippet in Server connect

Could someone be so kind as to point me to a tutorial on adding using a php snippet in the server connect.

ie: <?php $time = date("YmdHis"); echo $time; ?>

this timestamp is just an example, If I can see this maybe I can add other snippets as required.
